AXS TV will broadcast the 2013 Americana Honors & Awards program, a special dedicated to celebrating American Roots Music, hosted by Jim Lauderdale and Buddy Miller, at 8:00PM ET / 5:00PM on Sunday March 9.
The Americana Honors & Awards honors Stephen Stills, Dr John and Robert Hunter, among others. In addition to the aforementioned honorees, the special will include performances from Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Duane Eddy, Richard Thompson, Delbert McClinton, Old Crow Medicine Show, Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison, and new Americana torchbearers Shovels & Rope, John Fullbright, the Milk Carton Kids, Lennon and Maisy Stella as well as JD McPherson. The program also features Holly Williams who pays a special tribute to her grandfather, the great Hank Williams.
In addition to Lifetime Instrumentalist, Performance, Songwriter and ‘Of the Year ” awards presented throughout the evening, Ry Cooder presents the Jack Emerson Lifetime Achievement for Executive Award to Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz.
The program, presented by Nissan and the Tennessee Department of Tourism, was originally broadcast LIVE on AXS TV on September 18, 2013. A one hour musical special was also created with performances culled from the event titled ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival 2013 which aired in the Austin City Limits timeslot on PBS in November. The new AXS TV special will feature all 17 performances from the critically acclaimed event as well as compelling and often heartwarming speeches by the artists honoring the best of the best of Americana.Showcase submissions for the 2014 Americana Music Festival & Conference are now open, and will be accepted through Friday, March 28th. AMA Members can submit for free by printing the submission application (which can be found here) and mailing it to the Americana office at PO Box 628, Franklin, TN 37065.
Non-members can submit via our digital platform, Populr, for a small fee of $25. Are you an AMA member, but prefer to submit online? You’ll still have to pay the $25 fee. Sorry, there’s no way around that. Not a member, but want to submit via standard mail? You can join the Americana Music Association here, and take advantage of free submissions and everything else we offer!
All applicants will be notified by Friday, June 27th, 2014 as to whether or not they have been selected for this year’s event. Selected artists will showcase Wednesday, September 17th through Saturday, September 20th at many premiere venues in Nashville, TN.
